Saiga KSZ-223 pump action carbine was designed and produced in a limited run by Kalashnikov concern. This carbine is based on a proven and highly popular Saiga MK 223 semi-automatic carbine, but redesigned to suit requirements of the IPSC “manual action rifle” division. Development of this pump action carbine was requested by members of the Russian IPSC team specifically for the 2017 IPSC World Rifle Championship in Moscow, Russia.

Saiga KSZ-223 pump action carbine is based on the Kalashnikov AK / Saiga MK semi-automatic action, but lacks gas port and associated gas block and piston. It still has familiar and highly reliable Kalashnikov-type rotary bolt locking and return spring. Manual cycling of the action can be achieved by operating the sliding plastic forend (“pump action”) or by pulling and releasing ambidextrous bolt handles, attached to the bolt carrier. The latter mode in intended primary for firing from the prone position. Carbine is equipped with top-folding receiver cover with integral Picatinny rail, and a retractable M4-carbine type stock. Kalashnikov-type safety lever is provided with additional finger pad to facilitate faster one-hand operation. Ammunition is fed from Saiga-223 type detachable box magazines.
